Welcome to the
one of the most important resources of biomedical information in Croatia!
Central Medical Library at University of Zagreb, School of Medicine (CML), opened in 1948, but its beginnings (in the form of small departmental collections) go back as far as the 1917, the year of Zagreb School of Medicine foundation. It now contains over 120,000 books and periodicals in the medical sciences. The NLM Classification Scheme and MeSH thesaurus were introduced in early seventies. In the middle of the eighties the automation of library routines began, first in cataloging, then in circulation, and local bibliographic database creation.
CML is organized as the central unit with two branch departments. Its central unit consists of:
The branch library at Rebro Clinical Hospital (Kišpatićeva 12) contains the
Croatian richest collection of clinically oriented monographs and periodicals.
The branch library at Gynecology and Obstetrics Department (Petrova 13) mostly contains books and periodicals in the filed of gynecology and obstetrics.

Computer Assisted Information Retrieval
The librarians will be happy to assist you in doing search on your own. For a fee you may have a search carried out by a librarian. Medline (by Ovid Technologies) is the most heavily used database. You can also search through CD-ROM version of the Science Citation Index (SCI) for the period from 1980 on. The local mounted bibliograpic database "Biomedicina Croatica" is also accessible. The Library has a machine readable catalogue of books, PhD and MSc thesis.
CML offers weekly Medline training. You may contact Mrs. Davorka Granić (phone 4566-918).
